WRITER’S DIGEST:

Your Story 56

Prompt: Write a short story, of 750 words or fewer, that begins with the following line of dialogue: “If you can guess what I have in my pocket, you can have it.”

Entry Deadline: February 24, 2014

CANADA WRITES:

CBC Creative Non-Fiction Prize –

Submit your original, unpublished work of creative nonfiction between 1200 and 1500 words. A $25 entry fee is required. First prize is $6,000, with four runner-up prizes of $1,000 each.

Entry Deadline: February 1, 2014

Defining Moments –

CBC wants you to share your story with them. They want to hear about the moment or event that shaped you and the lessons learned from it. Your story does not need to be about sports, and it definitely does not need to be about winning. Take us to the boardroom, the recital hall, the classroom; give us a glimpse into the moment that transformed you.

Entry Deadline: February 23, 2014

CARTE BLANCHE:

Call for Submissions

At carte blanche we believe there is more than one way to tell a story. Our mandate is to provide a venue for narrative of all forms from fiction and nonfiction, to poetry and photo essays. A modest honorarium paid.

Entry Deadline: March 1, 2014

MATRIX MAGAZINE:

2014 Robert Kroetsch Award –

Open to Canadian residents only. Invisible Publishing and Matrix Magazine are now accepting submissions for the 2014 Robert Kroetsch Award for Innovative Poetry. Submit poetry manuscript for a chance at the prize of $500 advance, plus publication of the manuscript.

Entry Deadline: January 31, 2014
