WRITING CONTESTS
RBC Bronwen Wallace Award for Emerging Writers
- First Prize $5000
- Submit 5-10 pages of previously unpublished poetry
- Open to Canadian residents under the age of 35
- No entry fee

CBC Creative Non-Fiction Prize
- First prize $6000
- Submit 1200-1500 work of creative nonfiction
- The Creative Nonfiction Prize includes memoir, biography, humour writing, essay (including personal essay), travel writing, and feature articles. While the events must be real and the facts true, creative nonfiction conveys your message through the use of literary techniques such as characterization, plot, setting, dialogue, narrative, and personal reflection. In works of creative nonfiction, the writer’s voice and opinion are evident. The work should be accessible to a general reading audience (i.e., not written for a specialized or academic audience).
- Open to Canadian residents
- Entry fee of $25 per entry

2013 Malahat Long Poem Prize
- First prize $1000
- A single poem or cycle of poems that is between 10 to 20 pages long. A page is up to 36 lines (or less), including breaks between stanzas. In a cycle of poems, each poem must begin on a new page. In a multi-part poem, it is up to the author whether or not each section begins on a new page.
- Open to Canadian, American and overseas authors
- No email submissions
- Entry Fees: $35 CAD for Canadians, $40 US for Americans, $45 US for Mexicans and outside North America
- Entrants receive one-year subscription to the Malahat Review
DEADLINE: February 1st, 2013
ARC Poem of the Year
- First prize $5000
- Open to residents of Canada, US and writers from around the world
- Submissions by mail only (no email submissions accepted)
- Entry fees is $32 CAD. Entrants from outside of Canada must pay the entrance fee in Canadian funds
- May submit up to two poems per entrance fee. Individual poems can be up to 100 lines. Additional poems are $5 each
- Entrants receive one-year subscription to ARC

Annual Toronto Star Short Story Contest
- First prize $5000
- Submit Short Story of 2500 words or less
- Open to Ontario residents 16+
- Submissions accepted via mail only (entries faxed or emailed will be discarded)
